Gibeon is a historically and politically significant village located in south-central Namibia, situated roughly 70 kilometers north of Asab and about 170 kilometers north of Keetmanshoop along the Fish River. Politically and administratively, Gibeon falls within the Hardap Region and is the administrative center of the Gibeon Constituency.
Historically renowned as a prominent traditional stronghold of the Witbooi Nama clan under the leadership of Kaptein Hendrik Witbooi during the anti-colonial resistance, Gibeon carries deep cultural and historical heritage. The local environment is characterized by semi-arid scrublands, the seasonal Fish River basin, and wide open plains typical of the southern plateau. Economically and socially, the community relies heavily on small-stock farming, regional administrative services, retail trading, and vital transport connections linking to Mariental, Keetmanshoop, and Asab.
